This two-medal grouping features Francis Scott Key, author of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” depicted during the events of 1814 that inspired the future U.S. national anthem, along with celebrated American composer George Gershwin (1898–1937) at the piano. Both medals feature detailed, high-relief sculptural designs characteristic of the Great American Triumphs series.

The Francis Scott Key medal was designed by noted medallic sculptor Joseph DiLorenzo. Sterling-silver examples from this series were struck in .925 fine silver, with individual medals measuring approximately 39 mm in diameter and 34 grams in weight. (Numista)
